The Pennsylvania State Leadership Team scheduled a SpecialQuest training for the leadership staff at the Office Of Child Development and Early Learning. The purpose of the training was to orient the staff to the SpecialQuest appraoch and materials but also to have them think about specific application of the SQ approach in their work. The Louisiana Head Start Training and Technical Assistance Team designed a broadcast conference call using SpecialQuest materials to bring new information to a large number of early care and education providers in Louisiana. The framework of their discussion was designed using the session script, "Increasing Staff Comfort and Confidence" from the SpecialQuest Multimedia Training Library. The discussion was embellished with stories from their own experiences.

The Division for Early Childhood and the National Association for the Education of Young Children have recently approved a joint position statement that underscores their commitment to quality early childhood inclusion.

 

Early Childhood Inclusion: A Joint Position of the Division for Early Childhood (DEC) and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) takes historic step by providing a shared national definition of inclusion as "the values, policies, and practices that support the right of every infant and young child and his or her family, regardless of ability, to participate in a broad range of activities and contexts as full members of families, communities, and society."

 

The document, which was developed through a collaborative national process coordinated by the National Professional Development Center on Inclusion (NPDCI), represents the first time these two leading national organizations have partnered on a joint product that is expected to have widespread impact on the early childhood field.
